One of our favorite wedding trends from the last few years is the “first look.” For those of you who haven’t yet heard of it – we’re looking at you, grooms – the first look is typically a private moment for the bride and groom to share before walking down the aisle to say their vows.
Why has this trend become so popular? Your wedding day can be so fast-paced and full of loved ones that it can be hard to find a quiet moment alone to slow down and appreciate one another. Photographers also love first looks because it allows more time to capture portraits of the couple. By doing a first look, you might even be able to attend your cocktail hour and get the party started earlier! If you are doing an evening wedding ceremony, a first look may also allow you to capture more outside photos with your fiancè before it starts to get dark outside.
The first look isn’t just for the bride and groom! We’ve seen many first looks where the bride surprises her parents, family members, or bridesmaids with her gorgeous wedding day look. This can be a great option for the couple who wants to wait to see each other until that magical moment when the doors to the wedding ceremony open and the bride walks down the aisle.
Some of our favorite first look moments have taken place in and around The Treasury on the Plaza. Luckily for us, several of them have been caught on camera by some of our fabulous photographers! Here are a few of our favorite spots for first look photos.
1. The Grande Foyer Balcony
The balcony of The Grande Foyer is one of our favorite locations for your first look! The leaded glass bay window provides stunning natural lighting and frames the bride and groom perfectly for photographs.
2. The Plaza de la Constitución
What better place to go get some outdoor shots than right in front of The Treasury on the Plaza in the Plaza de la Constitución?! The historic charm of St. Augustine provides a beautiful natural background for your first look photos.
3. The Grande Lobby and Lobby Elevators
In The Grande Foyer, the mosaic tile flooring and ornamentation from the original bank make for a dramatic backdrop for first look photos. The elevators in the lobby are a favorite spot among couples and photographers to capture a first look.
4. The Exchange Gallery
With the Exchange Gallery’s location just a few steps away from The Plaza Lounge, where the bride puts the final touches on her hair and makeup, it makes an ultra-convenient spot for your first look.
5. The Breezeway Outside The Exchange Gallery
Looking for a more secluded spot to see your future Mr. or Mrs. for the first time? No problem! Check out the breezeway, just off of the Exchange Gallery, for a neutral backdrop without anyone catching a sneak peek!
6. The Plaza Lounge
Last but not least, The Plaza Lounge! This luxurious private suite where the bride gets ready on her big day is a no-brainer for first looks. Not only is it convenient, but the beautiful antique furniture makes a classic and elegant backdrop for photos.
