While planning their wedding from Boston, Kathryn and Britt had their hearts set on a spring wedding filled with the beauty of the season (and no threat of snow!). Their April wedding at The Treasury on the Plaza in St. Augustine was a beautiful event that checked all of the boxes!
The couple met at a graduate school, where Britt was studying and Kathryn was working. He kept asking her to dinner, but she was hesitant at first. Finally, Kathryn’s mom gave her a final push, telling her to “just go on the date”…and the rest is history!
The couple got engaged in the Fall of 2021. According to Kathryn, it was a total surprise! Britt had the ring in October and was trying to find the right time to ask. The proposal ended up being totally spur of the moment!
The two went out to grab a few drinks on a random Sunday. After stopping back at the apartment, Britt asked if they could go back out for one more drink. He tried to take Kathryn to the bar where they had their first date, but it was closed because of construction! They ended up at the restaurant next door. After Kathryn went to the restroom, their waiter brought out an appetizer, and written on the plate was, “Will you marry me?” Of course, she said “yes!”
When starting the wedding planning process, Britt and Kathryn put the focus on celebrating their love story, and what would make them truly happy. While creating a wonderful experience for their wedding guests was at the forefront of their minds, they came to the realization that planning a wedding is not just about everyone else enjoying themselves. By letting go of everyone’s expectations and opinions, they were able to find ways to focus on what would bring them the most joy, and create an event that they would remember fondly for the rest of their lives!
Here in North Florida, the spring months are the perfect time of year to celebrate your wedding day, as the weather is mild and the days are starting to lengthen, giving you plenty of daylight before your ceremony.
Getting married in April certainly has its perks. On their wedding day, it was 57° in Boston, but in sunny St. Augustine, it was a balmy 81°—ideal for taking advantage of all of the Oldest City’s beautiful photo locations! Fortunately, The Treasury on the Plaza is a quick walk away from the iconic Bridge of Lions, which was featured heavily in Kathryn and Britt’s wedding photos.
The wedding ceremony was held inside the Grand Ballroom at The Treasury on the Plaza, surrounded by Corinthian columns, a marble floor, and a sweeping ceiling. Built in 1927, The Treasury on the Plaza is the perfect example of a luxury venue that still feels cozy, fun, and unique.
We love how the soft draping from St. Johns Illuminations perfectly framed the moment these two became husband and wife!
After the two said “I do!,” guests headed to cocktail hour in the Exchange Gallery. Butler-passed hors d’oeuvres are always a hit, but Kathryn and Britt went the extra mile by having a professional Cuban cigar roller show off his craft!
While guests enjoyed cocktails, Kathryn and Britt took photos around St. Augustine. The Treasury on the Plaza’s convenient location in the heart of the downtown historic district gives couples unprecedented access to the sights and sounds of the Nation’s Oldest City. We especially loved how Bow Tie Photography captured their wedding venue in the background!
Of course, there are plenty of amazing photo spots inside the venue as well. Our Grand Foyer boasts beautiful gilded elevators that are ideal for a First Look (or a romantic wedding portrait) and the window in our Foyer Balcony is always a photographer favorite.
For each wedding, our amazing team transforms the Grand Ballroom from ceremony to wedding reception, allowing you and your guests extra time for cocktails and wedding photos.
One of our favorite moments of each wedding is when the newlyweds make their grand entrance through our Vault Bar. The giant door is original to the building and hails back to the building’s original use as a bank.
In the midst of celebrating, Kathryn and Britt took a moment to put their feet up and enjoy a gourmet popsicle from The Hyppo. Their enticing flavors were a welcome addition to this wedding, as no one could stay off the dance floor for long!
Partway through the reception, Kathryn changed into a flirty reception dress and sneakers, which allowed her to party well into the night with all of her favorite people.
As the night drew to a close, Kathryn and Britt were able to share a private last dance in the quiet of the Grand Ballroom. For many couples, this is when they are able to fully absorb the events of the day and appreciate the beauty and elegance of their wedding reception.
After a grand sparkler exit, most couples end the evening in a vintage car or horse-drawn carriage. But Kathryn and Britt wanted to do something a little different for their special day. They had their photographer follow them as they walked to their hotel, taking pictures that captured the magic and mystery of St. Augustine.
From start to finish, Kathryn and Britt’s wedding was not only joyous and beautiful, it was the perfect representation of their love for each other and for their family and friends.
We were honored to be a part of it and can’t wait to see what the future holds for these two lovebirds.
